Garage door and opener repair for Hillcrest in south Tuscaloosa
Door shuddering on its tracks, or an opener that quit after the first spring storm? Hillcrest lived through one of the worst tornadoes in Tuscaloosa history, so sturdy doors and dependable openers are a sensible priority here.

Hillcrest garage calls fall into two groups: openers that stop working, often after a power surge in a storm, and doors knocked out of line by wind or a bumped bottom section. We test the opener board, the photo eyes and the reverse setting, then check tracks, rollers and hinges so the door runs straight again.

Streets that rebuilt after the December 2000 tornado
The tornado of December 16, 2000 began on the west side of the Warrior River, did F2 and F3 damage through Hillcrest Meadows, and crossed State Route 69, where it destroyed a shopping center that was nearly finished. A door hung during the rebuild that followed has now been in service for more than two decades. If it still has its first tracks, hinges and cables, they are due for a close look, even if the opener or a spring has been swapped since.
Wind does its damage two ways. A strong gust can bow a door inward and pop rollers out of the track, and a surge on the lines can fry an opener's logic board even when the door looks fine. If your opener went dead after a storm, check the outlet and breaker first, and if those are fine, the board or power supply has likely failed. For more margin, a wind-rated door with reinforced sections is worth pricing, and our storm damage repair in Tuscaloosa page covers the rest.

Common questions
Questions from Hillcrest homeowners
Usually not. Surges tend to damage the logic board or the power supply first. We test those, and a new board often costs less than a whole new opener.
No door survives a direct hit from an F4, but reinforced doors resist bowing in strong straight-line gusts, and a door that stays in its opening keeps wind out of the garage.
The close force or travel limit is likely off, or the bottom seal has hardened. We reset the limits and force, then test the reverse with a board on the floor.
Look for a bowed section, a roller sitting outside the track, or a cable loose on its drum. If you see any of these, stop using the opener and call us.
